Christmas Break

School holiday so badminton hall closed.. =.="

20091218 Kern's Weihnachtsfeier

Well well well, today I didn't go for badminton, because it's our Betreuer, Herr Kern's annual Weihnachtsfeier (Christmas Party).

Instead of maintaining healthy weight, I went on with food and food and food. I ate a lot today. Sigh.

But nevermind, I can still go on Monday.

Should start thinking about Cardiff Game already. Jacky might want to go to Cardiff just to watch me play =D

But somehow I still unsure if the partners that I've picked is perfect. Definitely there's the chance, but maybe the commitment part is still a doubt.

I want to buy skipping rope also. Been missing my double-skip very much.

20091214 Badminton Report

Okay I'm gonna record down every progress of mine in badminton from today.

20091214 Monday

2005 - minimal warm up, stroke with Roy, played offence-defense

  • Positioning problem due to slippery ground - unable to grip firm on ground;
  • it has been a while since last played, so coordination problem, as in shuttle didn't reach my intended target, especially under stress;
  • nails too long, especially middle finger, due to learning fingerpick style
2040 - half-court single with Roy, end result 12-15, 15-10
  • Lost the first set mainly because slippery ground, as my smashes were all pivoted on my left foot, so turning became slow resulting direction error by 5-10cm.
  • Realized at the end of first game that I didn't even control my basic strokes well - resulting unforced mistakes, especially smashing. Learned that in half-court against Roy, playing endurance is the key factor to win.
  • Second game tightened shoelaces, and gripping increased. But still the wrist is not calibrated, 2 obvious unforced mistakes.
  • Strong points of Roy in this game: 1) ability to control dropshots from baseline, 2) agility, 3) observant, 4) provoking opponent to attack and hence mistakes
  • Weaknesses of Roy in this game: 1)  dummy shots (due to slippery), 2) forehand backshots, 3) attacking lobs, 4) body smashes, 5) sharp smashes, 6) half-courts
  • What I gained: 1) backhand sliced netting
2120 - Double with Roy against Germans (a male and a female), end result 15-21, 24-26
  • Roy's injury at beginning of the game weakened our offensive powers. Agility greatly reduced due to slipperiness of the ground.
  • Roy's weakness in this game: 1) half-courts, 2) unforced netting errors, 3) speed, 4) defensive
  • My mistakes: 1) unforced offensive lifting errors, 2) sacrificial smash failed, 3) slow after-smash recovery, 4) speed
  • Male's strong points: 1) ball-control, 2) baseline coverage, 3) placings, 4) dropshots
  • Male's weaknesses: 1) placings, 2) sharp smashes, 3) speed
  • Female's strong points: 1) placings, 2) front coverage
  • Female's weaknesses: 1) defensive, 2) placings, 3) half-courts
  • We did mistakes in covering each other's offensive, resulting in positioning errors. Opponents are good in placings and forcing Roy to make front lifting mistakes resulting in half-courts. We did cross-courts smashes for their near-midline shotswhich made partners unable to cover front.
  • Unforced errors were the winning determination.
2145 - pack bag and went back.
